Merry Xmas

We have two little elves who have been busy making their classmates Xmas cards. They have certainly shown persistence to get them finished. Well done girls.

Healthy Food Day

On Monday the Patu syndicate had a healthy food day. 3 classes made soup, 2 classes made scones and bread, and 2 classes made fruit kebabs.

We had to peel kumera and carrot, then chop the kumera, carrot, pumpkin, celery, leek and onion.  But I had to peel and chop the onion. We had to keep the pieces small and thin.
Before the lunch bell rang, we got to taste the food that other classes had made.

Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve

We also visited the reserve today and Wales along a track past all the Wetlands plants that we learned about last term. We went into a little hut called a hide and we peered out through special observing gaps in the walls. We saw a pie stilt and a heron and we heard some unique bird calls. Because some tracks were damaged in the recent flooding we went across the road to St Albans Church area. The church was built in the very same place that Te Rangihaeata had built his first pa in the area. We looked at he burial ground and noticed that many people died at a young age back in the late 1800s. It was very interesting to think about these people and what it was like back in those times in Pauatahanui.

Battle Hill

We had an energetic climb up the Wetlands track while we were at Battle Hill today. We walked up the hill where Te Rangihaeata tried to fight off the British troops who wanted the Ngati Toa land at Pauatahanui in 1867.  What a great can-do attitude from Room 3 students as they climbed some pretty steep terrain and saw sheep and horses and some workmen working on the Transmission Gully road below us. We will all sleep well tonight.

Sunsafe Kids

Tomorrow we are going out to Pauatahanui and Battle Hill.  It is likely to be sunny so please remember to send your children in t-shirts that cover their shoulders.  There were several students at school today in singlets and they have found it difficult to avoid getting burnt on their shoulders.  All will need their water bottles, sun hats and sun cream would be great for tomorrow's trip too, as there is not as much shade as there was on our Tunnel Gully walk.  Thanks.

What a wonderful day we had in the outdoors today. Thanks to our parent helpers - we hope you enjoyed the day too.

Earthquake Drill Day

On Friday morning we went swimming. After tea we played indoor games from other cultures with our buddies. In Room 3 we played pass the Coconut (Pacific Islands), Limbo (Trinidad) and Hide the Thimble (Poland and Russia). In the afternoon we practised 'Drop, Cover, Hold' and we ran through the reunification process that would happen if there was an emergency while we were at school.
