Sherbet fund-raising

We were trying to raise $100 and we just have 2 more sherbets to sell tomorrow to have raised $205 for the people of Vanuatu!!  (We made a few extra due to demand). Thanks to the amazing support we have had from our students and families.  Well done to all of our Room 21 children.  You are so compassionate.

Thank you Trentham School

Thanks so much for the awesome support Room 21 received for our fundraising for the people of Vanuatu.  We have reached our target of $100 in one day!  However, we still have about 20 extra packets of sherbet and lollipops for sale, and these are available before and after school on Monday for $1 each.

Cyclone Pam and Vanuatu

This week we have been watching some videos and looking at photos of people in Vanuatu, who have lost everything they own in the Cyclone.  Schools and houses were washed away and now there is dirty water and very little food. We chatted online to Jackie from UNICEF NZ and she told us that 128,000 people have been affected by the Cyclone and 60,000 of these were children.  UNICEF are providing tents and tarpaulins for shelter, soap to wash hands, water purification tablets to make the water clean and food.  The best way we can help is to donate money to pay for these necessities to help people to survive until after the clean-up and rebuilding has been completed.

We wrote about what we would do if we had $100 to donate to the people of Vanuatu.  Then we decided to raise $100 so we could send it to UNICEF as our donation.  Today at school we made 100 bags of sherbet, which we are going to sell for $1 each tomorrow at school to raise the money we need.  When we started making the sherbet, Mrs Walker and Miss Offord were helping us, but once we started to bag it up, some of us took over and finished the job independently and we even washed and dried our dishes.  Mrs Walker is so proud of us for taking on these responsibilities.

Room 16 update

Today we went across to see the building site in Rooms 16 and 17.  They are looking good and we are looking forward to moving in next term.

Cooking group

On Tuesday we had our last afternoon of cooking group.  The students in this group enjoyed making lolly cake and Liam even made some for Room 21 to have a piece for morning tea on Wednesday.

Capital E trip

We had a great time in Wellington on Thursday.  We saw 3 really good shows and the trip on the double decker bus was fun too.  Room 21/16 represented Trentham School very well out in public today and Mrs Walker and Miss Offord were proud of them all.

Dinosaur!

What a screamy treat we had today when a T-Rex came to school!  Some of us found it hard to remember that it was not a real dinosaur.

Around Room 21 in Week 6

Lucas has been enjoying playing the drums in his music group with Mrs Wasley.

Happy birthday Haimoana, we loved sharing your birthday cake.

Some of us enjoyed practising a play at reading time.

Tennis Lessons

On Tuesday we had our first of four tennis lessons.  We practised bouncing and catching the ball, then we tried to control the ball on our racket.  We had to run the ball around the racket like a car on a racing track.  Then we had to drop the ball off our racket and catch it again with the racket.  We pretended that we had caught a fish and it was jumping out of our net.  Finally we hit the ball to each other with little hits to control the ball.  We had a great time at tennis.
