Dinosaur dioramas

Over the past 2 weeks we have been making these dinosaur dioramas.  We started with decorating a background and foreground.  Then we cut out trees, ferns and dinosaurs and stood them around the landscape.  Finally we glued on some dinosaur footprints.

Dino (Cloud) Dough

We made some 'Dino dough' by mixing 5 cups of flour with 1 cup of baby oil (you can use cooking oil too).  We can pretend we are paleontologists by uncovering our little dinosaurs from the sandy cloud dough.  It's a bit messy inside though!

What did Dinosaurs need to survive?

We have been researching facts about dinosaurs.  We found out how big they were, where they had lived, what they ate and how they protected themselves to survive.

Dinosaur cookies

This week we made dinosaur cookies. We put 250gr of soft butter, 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 and 1/4 cups of flour in the mixer and mixed it for 3-5 minutes. Then we got our cookie cutters and cut out a dinosaur. Next we put the dinosaur bone stamp on the cookies and they were ready to be cooked for 10 minutes or so at 180c. degrees.  When they had cooled we iced the bones with a mixture of 1 egg white and about a half cup of icing sugar. We took them home for afternoon tea. Thanks to Jodie and Leanne for helping.

Dinosaur bone dig

We made some dinosaur bones and buried them in the sandpit for our Year 1 children to dig for at Discovery time. They had lots of fun finding the dinosaur bones and then they buried them again for the rest of us to have our own dinosaur dig. We are still discovering bones at lunchtimes.

Swimming

Swimming starts next week at 9am for Room 16.  Children need a swimsuit, towel, swimming cap and goggles (if they need them to open their eyes under the water).  Boys must have swimshorts with a liner or fitted togs.  If they are wearing boardshorts without a liner, they must bring some clean undies to wear with them.  If you can coach a group each day please see Mrs Walker.

Spring

The beautiful grass, shiny and green
Look at the flowers, yellow and red
Look at the trees and all the green leaves.
Let's go and play outside everyone

Te Papa Trip

On Wednesday we went to Te Papa to see the Tyrannosaurs exhibition. We had lots of fun and we also did a scavenger hunt along Queens Wharf to explore all of the interesting things that are there. At the end of the wharf walk we came to the playground and we went on the big slide. What a great day, and the weather held out for us too. Thanks to our parent helpers, we couldn't have gone without you.
