Froglets

Our tadpoles are starting to turn into froglets because they have both front and back legs.  Their tails will soon shorten as they grow into frogs.

Measurement - Area

This week we are learning about area.  We went outside and looked very carefully at the space - or area - inside the 'Blue Lines'.  Then we estimated how many children would fit, lying down, into the Blue Lines. Then we measured how many children would fit onto the area.  We found out that 23 children could fit into the area.  Then we drew a couple more areas and measured them too.

We were singing 'Oompa, Loompa' while we were beating the drums - Bailey
We sang a song called,'Yes, I like it, very very much'.  This was to help us play the rhythm on our drums - Laila
We repeated a chant of 'Say - la - la- say - la - la. - Maya
We beat our drums 2 times, then 2 times again, then five times - Nicole

Cricket Skills

On Monday we went to learn cricket skills in the hall.  First we did relays where we had to run up and bounce a ball on the stumps 3 times.  Then we threw a ball to someone in our team and they caught it, then they went to the back of the line.  Next we had a turn to bat while our partners were trying to catch the ball.  After that we did some bowling with straight arms.  One hand was out in front and the other arm came over to bowl the ball.

Back Legs

26/3/14
The legs are easier to see now.

We can see some little back legs forming on our tadpoles.  We read a book about tadpoles and the beginning of legs means that the tadpoles must be about 14 weeks old now. Their legs will continue to grow over the next 5 weeks and their tails will shorten, then disappear over this time.  Can you spot the little legs on this tadpole?

Measurement

We are learning to measure with non-standard units of measurement. We drew around
each other with chalk and measured ourselves in 'Hands'. We discussed how it was important to start at one end of our outlines and carefully place one hand next to the other, with no gaps in between so that we measured all of our height.

What makes a great teacher?

My great teacher teaches me my basic facts. She asked me what 10 + 10 is. I said 20. She tells me in writing to sound out the letters. My great teacher does spelling tests.  I got 12 dojo points for being on task. And she helps at the crossing.         - Maya.

Congratulations on winning the Year 2 writing challenge about what makes a great teacher, Maya.
