Maths in Room 16

In our circles maths group, the children are learning to count on from the biggest number to add two numbers together.  They need lots of practice to consistently get all of the answers correct.  They can also practice this at home with a pen and paper and they will love to show their families how well they are coming along with learning to count on, instead of starting to count from one to add numbers together.

Lincoln was having fun at maths trying to count out the correct number of bears to go in each of his buckets.  Then he was trying to see if he could fit the correct number of teddy bears onto each number card.  He was laughing when we got to 10 because he wasn't sure they would all fit.

We have been revisiting how to measure with different units of measurement.  We need to remember that the unit of measurement must be the same and we must measure end to end, so that we measure all of the length we need to.  If we put our finger between each measurement unit, then we will not measure the part where our finger was.  We must put our finger under the measuring to hold the place as we measure - then we will measure it all.
